I have a twitter feed where you can see what I'm up to.
I helped set up the HCV group at the Medical School where we've been since January 2005. Our group includes 14 people at present (7 post-docs, 6 Ph. D. students and 1 technician). We occupy 3 adjoining labs on the 5th floor of the IBR building, 2 cat 3 labs and have shared access to all of the facilities in the MRC Centre for Immune Regulation. We are involved in a wide range of collaborative studies both with colleagues within the medical school and elsewhere.
My own research investigates the sequence variation of HCV, with particular emphasis on the effects of sequence change on interactions between the virus and it's 4 receptors and on the recognition of the virus by the humoral immune response. I am also responsible for Virology teaching to undergraduates in the Medical School. In addition I help co-ordinate the College's involvement in the STEMnet scheme for schools.
Outside of research I also look after our groups administration, our teaching commitments, this website and the "Infection" webpages on WebCT for our undergraduate courses. We try and make Virology fun and have had some fantastic students. I try to podcast all my lectures and am helping the EduTech team roll out this facility across the school.
I want your old Specs!
If you have any old glasses that you no longer wear, we can recycle them to countries where eye care is virtually non-existent. Drop them off with the I&I office or bring them to me.
