Pi webserver

You are currently accessing a Raspberry Pi.

We run our webserver on it.

We've now changed over to the new B+ model!. Even lower power consumption, and an even cheaper micro SD card.

The Pi has several simple advantages :

  • Cost                 - £30 for the whole system!
  • Reliability         - No hard disk, everything is running off an 8Gb micro SD card.
  • Energy usage  - 3 2 watts. The server is powered by a phone charger, ~£3 2/year.
  • Space              - Fits inside a yellow tip box (see below), with lots of room to spare.
  • Security           - As a dedicated server with nothing else on it, there's simply nothing to steal.
  • Simplicity         - Backup is simply a matter of copying the SD card.
  • Speed              - It may even be very slightly faster than our shared Intel system (see below)
  • Expandability   - You can add things to it, for example £40 adds a freezer monitor.

This is how our old server compared with the Raspberry Pi (not a lot of difference).
